Seniors Embrace New Life at Largest Care Facility
Minhang has launched the trial operation of Shudong Elderly Care Home, the largest facility of its kind in the district, welcoming six elderly residents on the first day.
Among the first to move in were 80-year-old Wu Zifo and his wife. The couple cut the seal on their new apartment door and received flowers and a cake from the staff. "It feels just like moving into our first home when we were young," Wu said.
Their new 62-square-meter, one-bedroom apartment features an artistic portrait of the couple hanging in the bedroom.
With its open balcony, walk-in closet, barrier-free bathroom, and personalized household appliances, the space made the couple exclaim that it "truly feels like home."
The care home offers courses in calligraphy, painting, music, and dance, and residents can also enjoy walks and sunshine in the courtyard.
Another resident, 72-year-old Grandpa Xiao, moved into the specialized nursing zone. Unmarried and childless, he requires dedicated care due to a previous cerebral infarction.
"The caregivers are available anytime, and doctors conduct regular check-ups – it's even more thorough than the rehabilitation hospital," said Xiao's younger brother.
Staff at the care home said that they provide tiered nursing care – from mild to severe – based on health assessments, ensuring personalized services for each resident.
