The Shanghai Administration of Culture and Tourism announced on Monday the first season of a tourism itinerary competition.

The three- to seven-day itineraries should include meals, lodging, transportation, sightseeing, shopping and entertainment.

Submissions should highlight local tourist themes, such as historic waterfront routes, new performing arts locations, and New Year's travel themes.

Foreigners are welcome to contribute their ideas.

Entries can include seasonal museum exhibitions, cultural events, unique delicacies, local items and markets, as well as information related to New Year's Day and the Spring Festival.

The first season lasts from November 2025 to January 2026

Between November 18 and December 15, participants can register for the "Hu Xiaoyou" (沪小游) mini-program (English version available) on WeChat and Alipay.

Participation is divided into professional and public categories. The professional group targets travel businesses, hotels, cultural venues and licensed tour guides.

The final assessments and awards will be decided using a combination of online voting and expert review. A total of 100 multi-day itineraries will be chosen as Shanghai's suggested routes. A public exhibition and award ceremony will be held.

Winners will get tourist packages that include hotel accommodations, attraction tickets, and cultural souvenirs.
