ICYMI: Week 88
This week's prize
Winners this week will receive custom-designed, limited-edition City News Service charms! There will be five winners, each receiving one.
"Dong Xi Nan Bei" (literally "East, West, South, North") is actually a childhood game many of us used to play – did you ever try it? It is a classic paper-folding fortune game – similar to a "cootie catcher," where you open and close the paper flap to reveal a fun challenge or reward.
It's simple. You start with a square piece of paper, fold all four corners toward the center, flip it over, and fold the corners in again. That's it! On the outside, you write the four directions – east, south, west, and north. Inside, you write eight tasks or rewards, such as "meow like a cat," "wash dishes for a week," "tell a joke," etc.
You put your fingers into the four flaps, let the other person choose a direction and a number, then open and close the paper horizontally and vertically according to their number. When you stop, the inside flap reveals the task or reward.
The charm is made of leather and printed with the City News Service logo. You can hang it on your bag or use it as a door or window decoration. It's simple, stylish and beautiful.
