The "Voices in Contemporary Dance – Global Masters' Showcase" features 24 emerging Chinese dancers who will perform three works by internationally acclaimed choreographers at the Shanghai Grand Theater.

The program includes "Minus 16" by Ohad Naharin, "Cacti" by Alexander Ekman, and "I Wonder Where the Dreams I Don't Remember Go" by French contemporary art pioneers Yoann Bourgeois and Marie Bourgeois.

These international choreographers are working with Chinese dancers for the first time to give classic global works an Eastern twist in a production based in China.

In 1999, Naharin created "Minus 16," which encapsulates several of his previous works. It also exemplifies the Israeli choreographer's "Gaga" style.

"Gaga" encourages dancers to challenge old movement habits and overcome limitations by exploring sensation through movement.

"Cacti" explores how we observe art and the compulsion to analyze and "understand" it, which is full of ingenious uses of space, sound, and stage design.

Swedish dancer and choreographer Ekman was the artistic director and choreographer for the opening ceremony of the Paris Paralympic Games in 2024.

"I Wonder Where the Dreams I Don't Remember Go" poetically explores time, space, and physical forces, propelling the imagination into new realms.

The show has been performed in Beijing and Guangzhou before coming to Shanghai. Producer Wang Xin plans to develop it into an artistic brand.

Currently, it introduces world-class masterpieces to Chinese audiences. In the future, it will provide a platform for the new generation of local talent, creating and producing original Chinese contemporary dance works and showcasing them on global stages.
