Nine of the 14 stretches of road which witnessed the most casualties in the past three years are in Jiading District, according to statistics revealed by Shanghai traffic police on Tuesday.
Those “killer roads” are parts of Huyi Highway, Bao’an Highway, Cao’an Highway, Jia’an Highway, Baoqian Highway, Shengxin Road, Xinjian Road No.1 and the G2 Expressway. In the past three years, 32 lives were taken in 32 different traffic accidents.
At the top of the list, though, is Taihe Road from Jiangyang Road N. and Tieshan Road, where eight people were killed in eight accidents in the past three years.
Also highlighted were roads in the Pudong New Area, Jinshan District and Chongming District.
In total, 55 people died in 54 accidents which took place on the 14 roads during the period.
Police didn’t give a detailed analysis of possible problems with the roads, but it was noted that they are almost all spots with heavy truck traffic.
The traffic police said they will work out plans to remove any dangers on those roads.
Other measures considered in cooperation with the government and road management and maintenance companies include adding more warning signs, enhancing police presence and appointing “road chiefs.”
