Shanghai's West Bund Museum will unveil "David Hockney: Bigger & Closer (not smaller & further away)," the first immersive digital exhibition by contemporary art master David Hockney.
Co-created and overseen by Hockney himself over three years, the exhibition showcases his latest explorations in digital mediums, marking one of the artist's most experimental ventures to date.
Presented by OUTPUT in collaboration with London's Lightroom and 59 Studio, the exhibition will run from April 29 to November 30, at the West Bund Museum's Creativity Gallery. Here, Hockney's lifelong experimentation with new media will unfold in full force, inviting audiences to rediscover and reimagine the world through his visionary lens.
Far from a conventional retrospective, the show is a vibrant reinvention – Hockney's signature works are reanimated in immersive environments, while never-before-seen creations emerge through digital media.

Visitors will step into Hockney's visual cosmos, witnessing how his digital brushstrokes reinterpret nature, space and perception.
The artist has a deep connection with China. In his early years, Hockney visited China and compiled his travel experiences into a series titled "China Diary." In his own artistic creations which followed, he introduced the concepts of "shifting perspectives" and "scattered-point perspective" from Chinese painting, offering a fresh visual experience.
