According to Shanghai police and verified by on-the-ground checks from Shanghai Observer, the video is a fabrication. The dramatic clips circulating on social media were digitally altered, confirmed authorities. In reality, no significant flooding occurred in the area, including the intersection of Shimen Rd No.1 and Nanjing Rd W. where the luxury store is located. Tourists Trapped on the Bund!

In yet another post claiming that "tons of tourists were trapped on the Bund sightseeing platform today" due to the typhoon.

Let's clear that up: no, they weren't.

The rumor centers on a dramatic video showing crowds of people huddled together on the Bund in the pouring rain, seemingly stranded. And yes, it's real – but it's also three days old.

What actually happened: There was a sudden downpour earlier this week, and a bunch of tourists scrambled to take cover. Someone filmed it, and voilà – instant viral rumor material.

Today's situation? Totally different. The Bund sightseeing platform is currently closed. Authorities have shut it down temporarily to keep people safe during the typhoon warning. So there are no tourists up there at all – because no one's allowed up there right now.
