A large number of visitors from home and abroad visited Nanjing Road Pedestrian Mall over the weekend.
A summer shopping and entertainment campaign was launched over the weekend on Nanjing Road Pedestrian Mall, known as China's most famous commercial street.
The event aims to draw in international tourists and local consumers with a mix of cultural shows, retail promotions, and tax refund services.
The event, titled "Happy Summer on Nanjing Road," is part of the "Shanghai Summer" international shopping season. It targets the growing number of overseas tourists taking advantage of China's recent visa-free entry policies.
The road will become a summer hot spot for inbound tourism and youth spending with three themed serial events through late August.
Shanghai is pushing to become a more tourist-friendly shopping city. Organizers said the area will be the city's first "inbound-consumer-friendly commercial district," offering more multi-lingual services, cross-border payment support, and faster tax refunds.
