A roadside garden on the bustling Nanjing Road W. has become an “Internet celebrity” because of its unique and elegant design.
It was built by the greenery authority in Jing'an District to improve the urban landscape.
Surrounded by vertical green walls towering 5.5 meters, it is more like a courtyard hidden in the downtown concrete jungle.
The giant green walls are imbued with vibrant colors, from the red geranium, pink begonia, white baby's-breath, and hardy blue-flowered leadwort.
On both sides of the dark grey, volcanic rock ground, there are decorations featuring red-leafed maples, cut-leaf Japanese maples and red plum blossoms, which add a seasonal feeling and a bit of Japanese charm.
A carpet of pink muhly grass perfectly matches lavender-colored perforated aluminum panels, erected as decorations, which also serve as a nod to Italian painting master Giorgio Morandi, who is renowned for his muted color palette and quiet simplicity.
The garden is located at the intersection of Nanjing Road W. and Shimen No.1 roads.
