Shanghai will transition from frequent showers to increasingly hot and humid conditions.
With the plum rain season gradually weakening, temperatures will be on the rise in Shanghai this week.
As the rain belt retreats, the city will transition from frequent showers to increasingly hot and humid conditions.
From Tuesday onward, skies will be mostly cloudy with occasional short showers, but rainfall will be localized and brief. The maximum temperature will climb to 27 degrees Celsius, marking the beginning of a noticeable warming trend.
Starting Wednesday, subtropical high pressure will strengthen and shift northward. This will bring hotter and more stable weather, with daily highs steadily increasing.
By Friday, the temperature will peak at 35 degrees, reaching heatwave thresholds. The heat will persist through the weekend and into next week, with highs holding steady around 33-34 degrees and lows around 27. Brief afternoon showers or thunderstorms may still occur in some areas, especially under strong daytime heating.
The newly-formed Typhoon Sepat in the northwest Pacific will move toward southern Japan, but will have no direct impact on Shanghai. However, it may influence the position and strength of the subtropical high, which in turn affects the city's weather.
