The Metro will operate extra late-night trains on Lines 10 and 17 every Friday and Sunday from July 1 to August 31 to accommodate increased evening traffic at the Hongqiao transport hub during the summer vacation.
Late-night trains on Line 10
Line 10 will offer additional departures from Hongqiao Railway Station on Fridays and Sundays:
Stops include: Hongqiao Railway Station, Hongqiao Airport Terminal 2, Hongqiao Airport Terminal 1, Shanghai Zoo, Hongqiao Road, South Shaanxi Road, East Nanjing Road, Hailun Road, Siping Road and Wujiaochang.
Boarding is only allowed at Hongqiao Railway Station and Hongqiao Airport Terminals 1 and 2; all other stations are for exit only.
Late-night trains on Line 17
Line 17 will add two late-night trains on Fridays and Sundays, departing from Hongqiao Railway Station at 11:15pm and 11:30pm.
Stops include: Hongqiao Railway Station, Xujingbeicheng, Huijin Road, Caoying Road, and Zhujiajiao.
Boarding is only permitted at Hongqiao Railway Station; other stops are exit-only.
Line 2 maintains existing late-night schedule
Line 2 will continue its regular extended service:
Stops include: Hongqiao Railway Station, Hongqiao Airport Terminal 2, Songhong Road, Zhongshan Park, Jing'an Temple, People's Square, Century Avenue, and Longyang Road (final stop).
Boarding is only available at Hongqiao Railway Station and Hongqiao Airport Terminal 2; all other stations are exit-only.
Summer ridership expected to rise 6.5 percent
Daily ridership during the summer travel rush is expected to reach 10.61 million, about 6.5 percent higher than pre-holiday levels.
Passenger volumes are projected to rise during off-peak and late-evening hours, particularly at major transport hubs, tourist attractions, and shopping areas.
Shanghai Metro will conduct real-time crowd monitoring at key interchanges and destination stations. Additional staff and volunteers will be deployed, and standby trains may be dispatched as needed.
Note: The additional weekend late-night services on Lines 10 and 17 will be in effect only through August 31. Regular schedules resume on September 1.
