Shanghai is expected to be affected by a tsunami between 5pm and 8pm on Wednesday, triggered by an 8.8-magnitude earthquake off the eastern coast of Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula, according to China's marine forecasting station.
The maximum wave height is predicted to reach about 30 centimeters, the station said on Wednesday.
China's Tsunami Warning Center has issued a yellow tsunami alert.
Other areas at risk include southern Zhoushan of Zhejiang Province and Taiwan's eastern coastal regions, such as Taipei, Pingtung, Taitung, Yilan and Hualien.
Meanwhile, Shanghai is under the influence of Typhoon Co-may, which has already dumped heavy rains and is expected to bring 100-millimeter storm tides in coastal areas, but will not hit the alert level, said local authorities.
