Shanghai is bracing for a wicked combo of wind, rain and thunder.
Weather Alerts for SH Residents:
Batten down the hatches, Shanghai. Mother Nature's got us in her sights again.
Shanghai is bracing for a wicked combo of wind, rain and thunder – the kind of triple-header we haven't seen in weeks. Three weather alerts are now live: gale, thunderstorm and a fresh blue-level rainstorm warning. Translation? It's about to get wet, wild and windy.
Public transport, outdoor attractions, and even daily commutes are being impacted. Here's what you need to know right now.
The Triple Threat: Gale, Lightning and Now Rainstorm
At 5:30pm on Thursday (May 8), Shanghai's weather watchers raised the stakes with a blue alert for rainstorms. They're calling for more than 50mm of rain in six hours – most of it hammering down overnight and into tomorrow. That's on top of the yellow alerts already up for gale-force winds and lightning.
No surprise here: the city just activated its Level IV Emergency Response for Flood and Typhoon Readiness. First time in weeks we've seen that level of caution.

What's Happening Right Now
Blame it on the Jianghuai Cyclone. Wind speeds have been flexing all day, gusting up to Level 8 in places like Chenjia Town in Chongming. By 4pm, half the city was clocking Level-6 gusts or stronger.
Thunder's been grumbling in the southwest, and Qingpu's Jinze Town clocked nearly 20mm of rain in just a few hours. Temps are pinned down too, barely nudging past 22.7 degrees Celsius at Xujiahui's weather station.
Transport Woes and Shuttered Spots
If you're planning to move around, double-check before you head out. Soggy surprises are not the vibe.

Tonight and Tomorrow: Strong Winds and Scattered Storms Continue
Showers and thunderstorms are rolling through tonight and into Friday morning, with the heaviest rain expected to dump hard and fast. Winds are sticking around too – southeasterly gusts of 8-9 levels inland, 9-10 along the coast. By Friday, they'll swing west but won't back off much. Temps will hover between 17-24 degrees Celsius.
Even as the rain lets up tomorrow, the wind's still got some attitude. If you're braving the morning commute, plan on delays and keep your umbrella close. Shanghai's got a mean streak right now.
The Silver Lining: Sunshine on the Way
The good news? Weather will clear up over the weekend, with skies turning sunny to partly cloudy. Sunday brings a rise in temperatures and weaker winds – ideal conditions for laundry, outings or just some fresh air.

Next Week: Turning Up the Heat
Early next week? Full-on sunshine and a taste of summer with temps pushing 30 degrees Celsius. But don't get too comfortable – by midweek, the clouds and rain are staging a comeback, and we're back to that sticky Shanghai shuffle.
