The 25th Shanghai International Film Festival is set to take place from June 9th to 18th with the highly anticipated Film Panorama as its top attraction.
This year's Film Panorama, which is very popular among movie buffs, will offer screenings of classic films and new productions across 16 categories. There are also many new films by renowned directors, and an increased number of international premieres over other entries.
The screening schedule will be made public on May 31, and tickets can be bought on dianying.taobao.com from 12 pm on June 2nd. Tickets for popular screenings usually sell out quickly, so it's best to prepare in advance by studying the screening schedule.
The "Chinese Art Cinema" category will showcase representative art-house films created in the last 10 years, while "Making Waves" features films by the next-generation filmmakers from Hong Kong. For the first time, "Global Village" category will shine the spotlight on Spanish films to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations between China and Spain and will include screenings of new films from countries such as Germany, Italy, Japan, and India.
In the "Tribute to Masters" category, films by four film masters-Xie Jin, Jean-Luc Godard, Juzo Itami, and Mike Leigh-will be shown. Additionally, this category will include a new sub-category to honor the late Tibetan director, Pema Tseden, who passed away last week, and a new "In Memory of" section will showcase one masterpiece by each of the leading filmmakers who passed away last year, including Huang Shuqin, Qin Yi, He Ping, and Ryuichi Sakamoto.
To pay tribute to the renowned filmmaker Xie Jin, whose 100th birth anniversary is celebrated this year, his representative films like "Big Li, Little Li and Old Li" and "Bell of Purity Temple" will be screened.
Stay tuned for more follow-up updates about Film Panorama on City News Service later this month.
