What is it!
The Trendy Thai Festival is a FREE vendor exhibition with an assortment of cultural activities happening throughout this weekend (think, Muay Thai performances, cooking demonstrations, raffle and prize draws, and more).
We had the chance to visit a preview of the "Trendy Thai Festival" in the SuperBrand mall today. Which, if you haven't been yet, it's quite the example of modern Chinese engineering marvels. The mall is HUGE, large cavernous insides, with glass skylights, designed in an open-air fashion.
We ran into some Russian tourists who were marveling at venue selection itself!
If you're in Puxi, this is one good excuse to make the modest trek out to Lujiazui for some Thai products and cultural activities from the land of smiles.
You've probably seen Real Thai products around Shanghai in import stores. They have a fairly large selection of products at DEEP discount prices. Not pictured are 1 litre cartons of coconut milk for 25 yuan.
A bit of black pepper sauce... a little for hairy crab season perhaps?
Why Go?
Head down to get some Thai produce and kitchen products for GOOOOD prices...
The Thai Festival is compact, but worthwhile to go to, especially if you enjoy Thai flavors, and tropical produce like mangos (20 yuan), coconuts (15 yuan), and mangosteens (20 yuan per 1/2 kilo).
If you like to chef around your kitchen at home, there are a few Thai vendors slinging sweet chili sauce, lime salad dressings, packets of curries of all colors for 10 yuan each (red, yellow, and green), fish sauce, all at REALLY cheap prices that would absolutely put places like City Super to shame.
We picked up a few direct from Thailand mangos (delicious), mangosteens (also delicious), as well as durian (a unique sensory experience.)
Food Food Food
On the first floor by the West Gate entrance, you'll see 10 Thai restaurants, each serving up tasty treats. Definitely visit Hidden Thai's booth.
A few interesting non-food vendors too...
If you have an interest in martial arts, there's a Muay Thai studio there with staff that can talk to you about this sport.
But something that will appeal to a lot of folks are the Thai Massage spas! One of then, aptly named Thai Massage, is giving away 100 yuan vouchers.
A selection of Thai jewelry on sale.
