The Shanghai International Guitar Festival was launched in 2014.
The festival features concerts and interactive music programs.
The five-day 2023 Shanghai International Guitar Festival, which opened on July 20, features a number of top-notch performances.
More than 500 Chinese and foreign guitarists will congregate at the 5th edition of the festival, which has become a cultural name card for Minhang District.
As an international classical guitar competition, it has helped in promoting and building up enthusiasm for the instrument in the city.
The organizers have invited eight well-known guitarists to perform at the event. They are Marco Tamayo, Franz Halasz, Jose Luis Merlin, Josep Henriquez, Jerome Mouffe, Adam Levin, Thu Le and Jonathan Martinez Marin.
Chinese guitarists Li Zhiwei, Chen Xi and Min Zhenqi will also perform original compositions and crossover attempts at the festival. The Jiangchuan Minhang Theater, Shanghai City Theater, Opera House of Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and Shanghai Culture Square will all host more than 10 concerts over five days for local music fans.
Additionally, free concerts will be held at Huanyue Plaza (July 21 at 7:30pm), Bailian Nanfang Shopping Mall (July 22 at 2:30pm), and Jiangchuan Chuxin Yizhan (July 22 at 7:30pm). The musicians will also engage with the audience.
