Giants from the past gather at Natural History Museum

China's Dinosaur World exhibition at the Shanghai Natural History Museum from May 26 brings together 118 iconic fossils from 12 museums and research institutions across China.

It is the first time such a comprehensive collection of China's most significant dinosaur specimens has been shown in one place.

Co-organized by the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum and the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology, the exhibition highlights China's status as the world's leading source of dinosaur discoveries – with over 350 species found nationwide.

Exhibition at the Shanghai Natural History Museum brings together 118 iconic fossils from 12 museums and research institutions across China.

Among the highlights are 80 Class I national fossil treasures, including 42 type specimens used to name new species, and 13 fossils featured in top journals Science and Nature – two of which made the Nature cover.

Notable displays include the feathered Anchiornis huxeyi, the winged Ambopteryx longibrachium, and the Sinosaurus triassicus, named in 1948.

Many of the specimens are rarely seen "crown jewels" from national collections, now revealed to the public for the first time.

A trial opening runs from May 26–30, with full public access from May 31. Early bird tickets are available through the official WeChat Mini Program and the museum's WeChat account. Real-name reservations and ID are required for entry.
