The "Millennia of Longmen Meets Lingshan" exhibition opened at the Lingshan Buddhist Scenic Spot.
This summer, Lingshan Museum in Wuxi, neighboring Jiangsu Province, is presenting a once-in-a-lifetime cultural dialogue between two of China's most awe-inspiring Buddhist sites: the UNESCO-listed Longmen Grottoes and Wuxi's Lingshan Grand Buddha. Visitors can witness how ancient devotion meets modern innovation at the exhibition, which runs through October 31.
The show bridges the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534) and Tang Dynasty (618-907) stone carvings from Luoyang's Longmen Grottoes (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) with the serene spirituality of Wuxi's Lingshan, creating a visual symphony across millennia.
Through digital reconstructions, XR (extended reality) immersive experiences, and interactive displays, the exhibition reanimates the grottoes' intricate statuary, showcasing how cutting-edge technology preserves and revitalizes cultural heritage.
Using laser scanning and 3D modeling, the iconic statues of Longmen Grottoes have been rebuilt in the museum, including a special spotlight on Longmen's legendary "Victory Buddha" (比耶佛), a 1,400-year-old statue famed for its rare, joyful gesture resembling a "V" sign.
This artistic dialogue is not only an innovative practice in cultural heritage preservation but also a testament to the commitment of both institutions to deepen cultural exchanges and collaboration.
The exhibition's opening coincides with the launch of the 2025 Lingshan Museum Season, which promises a diverse array of cultural experiences, featuring a series of academic forums and public education activities to further enrich the dialogue between North and South, ancient and modern, infusing new life into the contemporary expression of China's rich cultural heritage.
Alongside the exhibition, the Lingshan Buddhist Scenic Spot offers visitors a variety of cultural and leisure experiences. Special limited-time offers, such as discounted tickets and the 2025 Lingshan Play Card, invite guests to explore the wonders of Lingshan mountain and enjoy a vibrant summer experience.
