Elderly Couple Rescued After Getting Lost in Nanchang Mountains
A couple in their late 80s has been rescued after getting lost during a mountain outing in Nanchang’s Meiling Scenic Area in Jiangxi Province, Shangyou News reported yesterday.
The pair had hiked into an undeveloped forest area for a better view but soon lost their way. When the husband managed to briefly call for help, local firefighters responded immediately.
As the phone later became unreachable, the rescue team contacted village committee staff and began trekking deep along the mountain trails to locate the missing couple.
After a search through rugged terrain, firefighters finally found the husband and wife resting by a creek. They were in stable condition and were later reunited with their family after receiving food, water, and a brief rest.
Authorities noted that the couple had wandered into a non-tourist zone. As outdoor activities become increasingly popular among seniors, experts have voiced growing concern about elderly hikers venturing into risky, undeveloped areas.
This is not an isolated incident. On June 18, six seniors in their 70s were rescued after getting lost while trekking inside Beijing’s Mendoutou Scenic Area.
Experts remind elderly outdoor enthusiasts to assess their physical limits, prepare proper equipment, avoid unmarked trails, and call for help promptly when needed.
