Shanghai parade lights up tourism festival with floats

Shanghai's Bund lit up on Saturday evening as 25 dazzling floats and 24 performance groups paraded along the Huangpu River, the centerpiece of the 2025 Shanghai Tourism Festival.

Launched in 1990, it has become one of China's largest cultural celebrations. This year's edition, themed "inclusiveness and global engagement," began in July and will run through October 6, blending culture, tourism, commerce, sports and exhibitions.

The parade featured everything from marching bands and folk dances to floats inspired by historic towns, pop culture and international friendship. Highlights included a whimsical float based on Chinese pop star Jay Chou and an entry from Japan's Kagawa Prefecture symbolizing cross-cultural exchange.

The floats will also tour 10 districts across the city, while international performers will take the stage at landmarks such as the Oriental Pearl TV Tower.

Through September 19, more than 60 attractions are offering half-price admission as part of the festivities.
