Shanghai's Suishenma Digitalizes City Life

Shanghai's official one-stop public services code system, Suishenma, now has 88 million users and is expanding beyond its pandemic-era application to include Lego Park access and digital dental health documents for schoolchildren.

According to its developer, the Shanghai Big Data Center, the digital tool, which connects users to hospitals, banks, and government bureaus, has been used for Metro access, medical insurance, and government services.

It awarded the Suishenma Contest winners over the weekend. Since 2023, the annual competition has invited developers to create digital features to improve urban services and governance in transport, education, and healthcare. The 2025 contest includes over 100 urban services, city management, and AI applications.

A Jinshan District-Legoland Shanghai Resort system that allows code-authorized users to enter the park "within seconds" won. Another Shanghai Stomatological Hospital app optimizes student oral health screenings with a digital code. It digitizes record binding, result entry, and health tracking using OCR and AI.

"We used paper records before. Linking to the Suishen Code lets us create student dental health records electronically," Doctor Zhang Ying said. "We can offer students with dental issues personalized AI solutions and professional medical advice."

Zhang said several Huangpu District schools will pilot this new initiative in 2026.
