To mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Switzerland, the Swiss Classic Design Exhibition is currently on view at Fosun Foundation Shanghai.
Featuring around 75 pieces of original Swiss design work spanning over 400 years, the exhibition highlights iconic contributions in furniture, technology and book design, with a strong focus on functionality, sustainability and Swiss modernism.
Visitors can explore landmark pieces such as Marcel Breuer's Armchair 1090 (1933), Hans Coray's Landi Chair (1939) and the USM Haller Modular Storage System (1961), alongside rural handcrafted furniture, ecological design innovations and award-winning works from the Most Beautiful Swiss Books competition.
The exhibition brings to light not only celebrated objects, but also the little-known stories of the designers and innovations behind them.
Curated by Swiss art director and curator Christian Herren, the show combines historical context with modern relevance, offering a comprehensive view of Switzerland's impact on global design. A timeline-based layout and thematic sections allow visitors to engage with the evolution of design philosophies from tradition to the future.
Whether you're a designer, art lover, or simply curious about the creative forces shaping our world, this exhibition offers a rare opportunity to experience the essence of Swiss design – where precision meets beauty, and form follows function.
