Taizhou Week opens in Shanghai's Yangpu District

2024-11-27 to 2024-12-01From youyuan (fried glutinous rice balls) to Shabu dried bean curd, Taizhou City in neighboring Zhejiang Province is cooking up a feast for Taizhou Week in Shanghai's Yangpu District.
A cultural and tourism bazaar at the Handan campus of Fudan University is part of the week running through Sunday, tempting people with authentic Taizhou flavors.
The fragrance of Taizhou local snacks such as brown sugar glutinous rice cake, sesame crispy pastry, and sausage rolls lingers in the air, together with fresh fruits such as tangerines and pomelo from the city.

At the market, there are also intangible cultural heritage displays and cultural and tourism products from Taizhou, as well as tent, leisure and cultural and tourism check-in areas.
The market is open to the public.
During the week, 12 activities such as a job fair booth and employment promotions by Taizhou companies are being held.
The event aims to attract young people, including foreign students, to experience the customs and cultural heritage of Taizhou, said Yu Yunguo, deputy director of the Taizhou Culture, Radio, Television, and Tourism and Sports Bureau.
Pomelo from Taizhou are featured at the market.

How to get to Taizhou: It takes approximately two and a half hours by high-speed train from Shanghai to Taizhou Railway Station and about three hours to Taizhou West Station. Driving takes about four and a half hours via the Huhang (Shanghai-Hangzhou) Highway.
Must-see attractions: Shenxianju, meaning "place where the immortals reside," a 5A-level national tourist attraction surrounded by hills, serene creeks, raging waterfalls and meandering mountain roads, Tiantai Mountain Scenic Area, Jiufeng Park, Dachen Island, Changyu Dongtian, a natural wonder featuring unique cave landscapes and rich cultural heritage.
What to eat: Maixia (wheat shrimp), chaomaci (stir fried sesame cake), jiangtangmian (noodles in ginger soup), shibingtong (cake cone), chuiyuan (glutinous rice ball), and various seafood.
