Free Jazz Concerts to Resonate at Shanghai's Qiantan Waterfront
Shanghai's Qiantan waterfront will turn into an open-air music destination as the 2026 JZ Festival returns from October 16 to November 1, offering free jazz performances, a vintage market and riverside concerts.
Now in its 22nd edition, it will be the largest festival yet, featuring more than 100 musicians from over 20 countries and regions, with 146 performances and industry forums across 13 venues.
The festival will kick off with the Jazz Age Carnival at Qiantan Sports Park from October 16 to 18. Alongside live performances, visitors can browse a vintage market featuring classic cars, vinyl records and retro clothing, bringing the atmosphere of the jazz era into a modern urban setting.
From October 19 to 23, sunset picnic concerts will offer a more relaxed musical experience. Jazz Avenue will then take over New Bund Red Lane on October 24-25, featuring four stages and interactive activities.
The music will continue along the Huangpu River with Jazz Riverside at Qiantan Leisure Park from October 27 to November 1, allowing audiences to enjoy live performances against the city's waterfront skyline.
The festival will also feature internationally acclaimed musicians, including American trumpeter Theo Croker, while Grammy-winning bassist Victor Wooten and The Wooten Brothers are scheduled to perform during the closing weekend.
All outdoor performances and forums will be free to attend, making the festival an accessible way for residents and visitors to enjoy jazz across Shanghai's public spaces.
