Lujiazui Coffee Festival Brews Cultural Feast With 390 Brands
More than 390 coffee brands from 20 countries are taking part in the 11th Lujiazui International Coffee Culture Festival, which opened on Monday at the Lujiazui Central Green Space near the Huangpu River.
The weeklong festival features more than 70 new products, exclusive coffee creations and limited-edition merchandise from brands across five continents.
Participants include UK specialty coffee shop Calico Coffee, named one of the world's 10 best new coffee shops by Sprudge, a famed coffee publication; Stockholm-based Standout Coffee, recognized as one of the Nordic region's top roasters; and Calgary, Canada-based Monogram Coffee, associated with nine world coffee champions.
There are other brands as well such as Germany's Wildkaffee, Peru's SHAN-KAY and Seoul-based aery.
From October 22 to 25, the festival will host 16 public workshops and events covering coffee brewing, tasting and culture. More than a dozen brewing champions, roasters and industry professionals from Greece, the Netherlands, France, the United States and Australia are expected to meet visitors.
The festival has grown significantly over the past decade, according to a report by Fudan University's Big Data Lab of Consumer Market. Attendance has risen from 12,000 per edition to more than 150,000, while the number of participating brands has increased from 24 to more than 390.
The report also compares the festival's attendance with that of international events such as the London Coffee Festival and the Melbourne International Coffee Expo, placing it among the world's larger city-based coffee festivals.
