Monthlong Event Celebrates the Elegance of Qipao
The 2026 Shanghai Qipao Month will feature a citywide program of exhibitions, concerts, talks and interactive experiences celebrating one of Shanghai's most recognizable cultural symbols.
The event, to be held at the Shanghai Mass Art Center, celebrates both the tradition and present-day appeal of Shanghai fashion.
Visitors can explore an interactive exhibition that chronicles the evolution of qipao over the last century, as well as cultural lectures, guided tours, digital fitting mirrors, and traditional styling experiences.
These actions, taken together, provide a more in-depth view into the garment's craftsmanship and attractiveness.
Over 30 qipao art groups will participate in themed performances throughout the month, with presentations on Huangpu River cruise, Jinshan's Langxia Youhao Village, Qingpu's Fangxia Fashion Center, and Pudong's EKA Tianwu.
Over 15 brands will sell handcrafted, modern, embroidered, and cultural qipao in a dedicated market. The event includes free coffee made by autistic youngsters, adding a community element.
The monthlong program, part of Shanghai's 2026 Cultural and Natural Heritage Day celebrations, will also take the qipao culture to shopping districts, neighborhoods, cultural venues, and tourist attractions, giving residents and visitors new opportunities to experience Shanghai-style elegance.
