Travel Back in Time and experience how life was at the Song Dynasty-Themed Night Market
The Song Dynasty (960–1279) was the peak of ancient China's economic development, and with money came the golden age of fine arts appreciation and traditional aesthetic culture. Take this chance to travel back to the times of the ancient Chinese booming economy and flourishing fine arts at the Song Dynasty-themed Night Market, happening every weekend through August 31.
This event will feature four popular forms of folk entertainment: Thousand Lanterns Parade, Shadow Puppet Theater, Ancient Art of Colorful Performances, and Leisure Court Storytelling. Visitors can look forward to miniature games from the Song era, such as tossing quoits, cuju (an ancient Chinese sport akin to a mix of modern-day football, volleyball and basketball), and pitch-pot.
While you are here, experience for yourself the top 10 core businesses that prospered in the Song era: Meat, Porcelain, Weaving, Tea, Fermentation, Vinegar, Ice, Scent, Rest and Entertainment. These were the forerunners of the era; expect exquisite and unique works in these fields.
Apart from the booths, the whole night market is cleverly decorated to bring about an immersive experience of Song. The 600-meter street along SoLong Park features many different areas of attractions, with the buildings featuring green-tiled roofs with wooden eaves, with a color palette of shades of blue and yellow that were popular in the Song dynasty, giving the whole feel of stepping through the river of time and arriving in ancient China. The unique and picturesque scenery is further enhanced with the swaying shadows of pine trees and partially rolled bamboo screens.
Experience for yourself and bask in the wonders of the vibrant night life of the Song Dynasty!
