Computer Worlds: An Archeology of Digital Creation Since the 1950s
Visitors can explore the many relationships between physical, imagined, and virtual worlds in "Computer Worlds," part of the five-year West Bund Museum-Centre Pompidou exhibition collaboration.
The exhibition uses nearly 180 works and archival documents from the Centre Pompidou to explore digital creation's "archaeology" since the 1950s.
From generative art, pixel aesthetics, and digital craft to internet culture, NFTs, and artificial intelligence, it shows how artists, designers, architects, and engineers use computational tools to process and express relationships among images, space, and matter.
Works by Chinese artists are also included, offering models for the local application of digital technology in China.
The exhibition examines the history of computing technology's entry into art to ask today's creators and the public: how will human creativity and judgment continue as tools evolve?
Game consoles and other interactive installations enhance visitors' experience at the museum.
The exhibition runs until February 14, 2027.
