Daniel Chen's Desert Views Explores Memory and Landscape Through Painting

Desert Views, Daniel Chen's third solo exhibition at Capsule, features 29 paintings from a recent body of over 100 creations.

Inspired by a road trip through Arizona and his father's admiration for the desert, the exhibition turns scenery into intimate reflections on memory, family, and fleeting moments.

Through spontaneous brushwork and vivid compositions, Chen blends landscapes with everyday objects, abstract forms, and personal recollections.

The paintings resemble views through a car window – fragments of places, thoughts, and emotions captured in passing.

Desert Views shows how everyday moments can make an indelible mark. The works capture what we see and the memories and feelings that last, like postcards from past journeys.

Daniel Chen is an artist based in Shanghai. He studied at the Rhode Island School of Design, where he was awarded the Florence Lief Award.

Rooted in lived experiences, Chen transforms everyday observations through abstraction, exploring memory, perception, and the emotional possibilities of paint itself.
