Discover the Magic of Materials at the Liu Haisu Art Museum
A major art exhibition is bringing traditional techniques, diverse materials and new technology at the Liu Haisu Museum this summer, offering a fresh perspective on contemporary art.
The inaugural Shanghai Comprehensive Art Exhibition, titled "Matter· Essence," features 174 artworks spread across four exhibition halls. Running through September 6, the exhibition explores how artists use different materials and media to expand the boundaries of artistic expression.
Innovative works using new materials and technology, old visual strategies, and East-West artistic exchanges are on display. Metal intertwined with cotton and linen creates surprisingly soft forms, while old newspapers are collaged with memories.
Light and shadow in the artworks create flowing patterns and changing visual effects in the exhibition rooms. Other works show unique skin texture, allowing visitors to appreciate the materials up close. Leather and rust create an unexpected contrast between tenderness and roughness in one beautiful piece.
Visitors can directly experience the works' textures, colors, light, and spatial effects. It simplifies and visually enhances modern material art exploration.
