Follow the Life of Alberto Giacometti at Shanghai Minsheng Art Museum
Coinciding with the 60th anniversary of his passing, "Alberto Giacometti: A Life of Creation" will make its debut at the Shanghai Minsheng Art Museum on July 17.
Running through December 6, the exhibition will shed light on the entire creative period of Swiss artist Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966) and systematically present his life trajectory and artistic development.
Giacometti was a highly iconic artistic legend of the 20th century. Through his unique sculptural style inspired by cubism and surrealism, he holds an irreplaceable position in the history of art and sculpture.
Held in honor of the maestro, this exhibition consists of 13 sections and features 212 significant pieces and precious archival materials from the Giacometti Foundation. The art pieces encompass various types of Giacometti creations, from sculptures and paintings to sketches, prints and manuscripts.
The exhibition also delves into the connections Giacometti had with his family, his memories of the natural environment of his native Switzerland, as well as his daily walks in the streets of Paris, allowing the audience to truly experience his life and inner world.
"Alberto Giacometti: A Life of Creation" challenges the common perception of Giacometti, a person often seen as "isolated and dedicated solely to his art." Instead, it aims to reveal the side of his artistic career that is infused with warmth and emotional textures by presenting a more intimate narrative.
By showcasing Giacometti's vast artistic world to the general public, the exhibition also unveils the hidden and poignant aspects of the master's creative journey, allowing viewers to see a more authentic Giacometti beyond the high pedestals of a legend.
