German Art Exhibition at Shanghai Haipai Art Museum
Shanghai Haipai Art Museum has collaborated with Kunstmuseum Bonn, German Museum for Painting and Contemporary Art, to hold the exhibition German Art Today here in Shanghai through May 24.
Over 20 specially invited German artists have prepared over 100 exhibitions, ranging from painting and sculptures to space installations and other art forms combined with multiple media to create fresh and innovative perspectives, fully demonstrating the artists' unique understandings and exploration into contemporary art. The exhibition will include both visual and audio sensory cues, as exhibition halls are accompanied by the melodies of classical music pieces to add layers and dimensions to the interpretation of these art pieces.
The collective spirit of German contemporary art is rooted in a profound tradition of philosophical thinking with a humanistic approach, abandoning individual expression whilst focusing on reflecting on humanistic values, as well as the essence of existence.
An observation visitors may notice is how many of the artists have integrated rational reasoning into visual narratives, forming artistic characteristics with an ideological yet formal tension within the art pieces. This is not a homogeneous expression of the creator. This is the temperament of German art: a common adherence to the social function of art that German artists follow.
