Global Museum Treasures Arrive at Suzhou Creek to Celebrate Museum Day
Shanghai residents and visitors can now explore and collect treasures from some of the world's most renowned museums along Suzhou Creek.
The "Suzhou River Dialogues with Seine River" event has opened in Hongkou District to celebrate the 50th International Museum Day, which takes place on Monday.
This event was hosted at Hoshu Superyacht on North Suzhou Road and featured a combination of physical merchandise and online digital collectibles. Visitors can purchase exclusive licensed items from numerous prestigious institutions.
Notable exhibits include a "frizzy-haired" Vincent van Gogh doll from the Musée d'Orsay, as well as a popular cup from the British Museum. Visitors can scan codes to view and collect global digital artworks directly on their phones.
"To digitalize art and give access to more people is a great idea," said Guillaume Ménuel, a French hospitality executive who has lived in China for nearly 20 years. "It makes art more easily available, especially for the younger generation."
The event highlights the transformation of the Suzhou Creek waterfront. The area has evolved into a vibrant cultural destination. Ménuel said such transformation mirrors the history of the Seine River in Paris.
"There are similarities in how they transform what was before an industrial part into a cultural area," Ménuel said. "People just walk around, enjoy the day, see art exhibitions, and meet friends."
The museum gallery also links with the ongoing 2026 Shanghai Wine Festival. The public can enjoy a cultural market, collect unique museum stamps, and participate in public art creations.
