Illustration Show Bridges Past Memories and Present Moments
Spanning the spatial journey between "here" and "there," illustrator Zhao Muping's latest exhibition bridges past memories and present moments, delivering a gentle exploration of self across diverse life contexts.
Zhao, born in Shanghai, is currently based in the United Kingdom. Rooted in warm and refined visual aesthetics, her creations focus on subtle emotions in daily life. She integrates travel experiences and meticulous life observations into her works, transforming trivial everyday moments into emotional, imaginative visual narratives.
Centered on Zhao's recent paintings and visual narrative works, the show presents her artistic practices rooted in cross-cultural living, urban memories, daily healing and social empathy, building a bridge between personal experience and public emotions through delicate and lightweight visual language.
Her work "In The House" captures inner growth and emotional shifts during overseas life, while "Lane Memories" preserves the warm, mundane humanity of Shanghai's urban texture through nostalgic imagery of the city's traditional alleyways.
Her picture books "Who Am I?" and "Oh? Apple!" transcend cultural barriers to convey understanding and care for people living with Alzheimer's disease. Blending vivid storytelling and soothing aesthetics, all pieces carry profound reflections on life, emotions and companionship within a relaxed visual rhythm.
The illustrator adopts diverse creative techniques, integrating classical literature, traditional solar term culture, childhood imagery and social topics into cohesive visual stories.
