Korean Designer Brand Peltro Studio Brings the Art of Everyday Dining to Shanghai
Shanghai's design enthusiasts have been urged to slow down and rediscover the beauty of the dining table at a new exhibition on Wuyuan Road.
The Art of Everyday Dining, presented by Korean design brand Peltro Studio at Liangmu House, brings together traditional pewter craftsmanship and contemporary Asian design in a celebration of daily rituals around food.
The exhibition centers on a dialog between pewter, porcelain and glass. Peltro Studio reinterprets European pewter-making traditions that graced dining tables for centuries through a contemporary Korean design lens. Thai artisans who have worked with pewter for decades complete each piece.
Pewter is not merely a material but a culture in itself. A warmth of texture distinct from the elegance of silver, a surface whose beauty deepens with use, and a history rooted in a long-cherished dining culture.
Each piece begins with an artisan's wax carving before being brought to completion through casting, polishing, and finishing – a process that bridges European heritage, Korean sensibility, and Thai craftsmanship in a single object.
Liangmu House is a three-story traditional Shanghai lane house, which is dedicated to objects for everyday living. It brings together contemporary design, exhibitions, and experiences centered around tea, coffee, and dining – making it a fitting backdrop for Peltro Studio's exploration of how traditional craftsmanship can find new relevance in contemporary life.
The two brands create a quiet conversation between materials, cultures, and everyday traditions – one that feels especially resonant in a city where old and new constantly meet.
