Line Gallery Opens Its New Shanghai Space With Boundless Vistas

Line Gallery opened its new Shanghai space with Boundless Vistas, an exhibition featuring more than 60 new works by 34 contemporary artists. The exhibition brings together a diverse group of established and emerging voices, such as He Duoling, Wang Chuan, Zhou Chunya, Yin Zhaoyang and Gao Yu.

Bringing together different artistic languages and perspectives, Boundless Vistas explores the evolving relationship between landscape, time, life and the human spirit, offering a broad view of contemporary artistic expression.

The exhibition takes its title from Zhu Xi's Spring Day quote: "Boundless vistas are renewed in an instant."

Both the landscape before us and the Way of Heaven in the human world are considered "vistas" in this context. The word "boundlessness" implies vastness. After recognizing the "face of spring" in the Way of Heaven, spring can be found in the world's many colors, according to Zhu Xi.

In reverse, one could say that these diverse artistic visions and the countless and richly varied worlds they evoke contain a hidden language flowing through the Way of Heaven.

Openness is encouraged at the exhibition. Classical German philosophy holds that humans evolve over time, and "time" in "vistas" symbolizes life.

Under the Way of Heaven, the human spirit has an irrepressible "impulse of life" that unfolds. It drives artists to evolve and create new languages, forms, and spiritual landscapes like a powerful current.

These two dimensions form and run through the artists' limitless "vistas."
