Long Museum Exhibition Celebrates Harvest Season
The Long Museum Pudong is celebrating the harvest season with the exhibition "When Oranges are Orange and Tangerines are Green" until November 30.
The exhibition, which features more than 40 modern and contemporary paintings from a private collection, includes highlights such as "Chrysanthemums in a Green Vase" by Pan Yuliang, "Two Pavilions on the Riverbank" by Zhou Bichu, "Farmer Drinking Water" by Luo Zhongli, and "Autumn Scenery" by Wang Jieyin.
The exhibition covers the mid-20th century to the present, featuring oil paintings, watercolors and ink works that depict the artists' beloved images of autumn, through subjects such as seasonal blossoms, historic sites, waterfront environment and harvest-time labor.
The exhibition's title, which refers to the late-autumn, early-winter period in the lunar calendar when oranges turn yellow and tangerines remain green, is based on the poem "Dedicated to Liu Jingwen: Winter Scene" by Su Shi of the Song Dynasty (AD 960-1279), one of China's greatest poets and essayists who was also an accomplished calligrapher.
"You must remember the brightest scenes of the year. It occurs when oranges are orange and tangerines are green," the poet wrote to encourage a friend.
