Robots Take Center Stage as Two-Day Carnival Opens in Baoshan
The 2025 Baoshan Intelligent Robot Conference and Carnival opened Friday at Wisdom Bay in Shanghai's north Baoshan District.
The two-day event offers citizens and tourists a chance to see some of China's newest service, industrial, and experimental robots in one place.
Humanoid robots, four-legged machines, wheeled models, robotic hands, sensors, and other core components are arranged across the exhibition area. Many of them perform short demonstrations. Others allow simple, guided interaction.
Baoshan District Director Deng Xiaodong said that the district is actively working to establish itself as a robot cluster and to enhance support for enterprises engaged in developing new systems.
Baoshan currently hosts nearly 300 firms related to the robot supply chain and plans to enhance real-world testing in factories, laboratories, and public spaces, according to Deng.
He mentioned that new research platforms, data centers, and supply chain services will assist companies in testing, refining, and deploying next-generation robots.
Deng stated that Baoshan aims to attract more global partners and projects as part of Shanghai's broader innovation strategy.
Robot dogs from Unitree perform lion-dance routines, while humanoid prototypes practice short mobility demonstrations.
Other exhibits feature a robot barista, a calligraphy robot, and several "guide robots" that help with navigation within the venue.
The displays are designed to provide visitors with an up-close look at emerging systems without requiring technical expertise. Staff members will be available on-site to offer brief explanations, according to the district government.
