Shanghai's Leading Concept Store Dongliang Hosts Debut Exhibition
Located along Suzhou Creek at Guang'er Warehouse, Pillars Gallery has opened its doors with the debut exhibition "Dongliang Craft Atelier" in its new riverside space.
A great exhibition is not only about the works themselves but also a dialogue between space and content. The gallery itself is a cultural and artistic space worth exploring. Its recurring pillars continue the imagery of "dongliang," symbolizing a solid foundation, support, connection and extension.
Inspired by Zhuangzi's "Knowing the North" (Zhi Bei You), which states "Heaven and Earth possess great beauty, yet speak not," the exhibition draws from the natural world to explore the deepest forms of beauty. Through handcrafted structures, it emphasizes the dialogue between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary art aesthetics.
Sixteen artists experiment with lacquer, metal, paper, ceramics, rattan, wood and stone, creating works that reflect attentive listening to materials and contemplation of everyday life. Each piece embodies warmth through skill, time and thoughtful engagement.
