'Space Meets Skincare' Exhibition Opens at Oriental Beauty Valley

April 20, 2026  to  May 20, 2026
2538 Wangyuan Rd 望园路2538号

A new space-themed science exhibition showcasing China's aerospace technology and the skincare innovations aboard the China Space Station has opened at the Oriental Beauty Valley · Chando Future Beauty Innovation Hub.

Presented by the Shanghai Astronomy Museum, the free exhibition runs through May 20, merging space technology with beauty and skincare for a unique public experience.

The experience begins outdoors with a visually striking display featuring a model of the Shenzhou-20 rocket alongside astronaut and lunar figures. Inside, the exhibition guides visitors through a narrative in three chapters: Understanding the Universe, Exploring the Universe, and Living in the Universe.

It showcases items, including a miniature Tiangong space station model and structural components from the Shenzhou-7 companion satellite, as well as an immersive space tour through VR (virtual reality).

There's also a display of "Space-Grade" skincare technology. The cross-innovation between aerospace tech and skincare began with the sending of a biological skincare research project by the joint space skincare lab of Shanghai's Chando Group aboard the Shenzhou-10 spacecraft in 2013.

One of the highlights is China's innovative solution for "How Astronauts Wash Their Hair in Space". Addressing the challenges of zero gravity, where water droplets float uncontrollably, Chando developed a special Rinse-Free Space Cleansing Product. The display contrasts with the traditional method where astronauts had to deal with floating foam with new solutions: A shower cap with built-in cleansing technology that requires no water for short hair. Or a high-efficiency cleansing lotion that requires no rinsing for long hair. This product is specially formulated to withstand the harsh conditions of space, being resistant to high temperatures and able to endure the tests of vacuum and microgravity. This innovative hair-cleaning technology is now in use aboard the China Space Station.

Beyond the aerospace exhibitions, guests can tour the entire innovation hub, which includes halls dedicated to cosmetic science, art, and sustainability. The facility has translation devices that provide instructions in multiple languages to overseas visitors.
