Tales of Now, Where Contemporary Swiss Comics Come Alive
Comics find a new voice at the Shanghai Minsheng Art Museum. Now on view, Tales of Now: Contemporary Swiss Comics from the Fumetto Festival brings together nearly 500 works by 22 Swiss artists, presenting comics as a form of contemporary art that extends far beyond the printed page.
Structured around six themes – courage, identity, history and memory, dreams, science fiction, and society – the exhibition moves between intimate personal stories and broader social reflection. Through drawing, narrative, and experimental formats, the artists explore fear and resilience, everyday pressure, imagined futures, and the humor hidden in daily life, revealing how comics can speak quietly yet powerfully to the present.
The exhibition design invites visitors to slow down and wander. Bold color blocks, large-scale installations, and scenes that seem to step out of comic frames create an open, playful rhythm.
Interactive details, transparent translation cards, and a reading area filled with comics and picture books make the experience approachable and relaxed. Beyond the gallery walls, oversized comic-inspired sculptures appear in the nearby streets, extending the sense of "wandering between panels" into the city itself.
