This Shanghai Art Show Invites Humans into a Dog's World
This time, humans are asked to step aside.
China's first art exhibition designed especially for dogs, PAWSPECTIVE, has arrived at Qiantan Taikoo Li in the Pudong New Area. Running through May 22, the first themed show, "Pawer," invites people to enter a world where dogs are not guests, but the real audience.
The exhibition is "curated" by Gou Gou, a chocolate-colored Chinese Chow Chow dog. Instead of long curatorial notes, the rules are simple: sniff, explore, climb, wander and follow curiosity.
Nearly 20 artists from China and abroad have created interactive works based on how dogs see, smell and understand the world. Installations include scent-based spaces, a dog "social square" inspired by fire hydrants and utility poles, and a Shanghai scent map that recreates familiar city smells from a canine perspective.
The show also highlights rescued and stray animals, using artworks and stories to explore trust, healing and companionship between humans and dogs.
