West Bund Hosts Leica Home Shanghai Exhibitions
Two exhibitions at Leica Home Shanghai on the West Bund combine photography, design, and Shanghai's riverside scenery in a pure white space of light and shadow.
The exhibitions mark the launch of Leica's first gallery on the Chinese mainland and run through October 12.
"Marc Riboud: China Memories" features 30 original works by the French photographer. The exhibition shows China's transformation through Riboud's lens over five decades.
The exhibit includes "Painter on the Eiffel Tower" and "Ship Window on Liulichang Street," as well as Chinese street scenes from the 1990s and 2000s.
Known for his subtle and humanistic approach to photography, Riboud focused on ordinary people and everyday moments, creating images that reflect the atmosphere and social changes of their time.
The "Masters of Light: Leica Hall of Fame" features 14 influential photographers and recounts Leica photography's history. The exhibition shows how documentary, street, portrait, and landscape photography continue to document people, places, and moments.
Beyond the exhibitions, visitors can experience Leica's craftsmanship and photographic culture through its cameras and lenses, including the M11 and classic film cameras. Leitz Cafe offers post-exhibition relaxation.
Located by the Huangpu River, Leica Home Shanghai combines art, photography, and lifestyle in one space. Admission is free, and visitors may consider coming in the late afternoon to enjoy the changing riverside light.
