West Bund ICEC Shines As Newest Art and Design Expo Venue
A pair of comfortable shoes is essential for exploring the five venues at the 2025 West Bund Art & Design from November 13 to 16.
Recognized as one of the premier international art fairs, it is also a major highlight of the 7th Shanghai International Artwork Trade Week.
This year, the fair will introduce its latest venue: the West Bund International Convention and Exhibition Center (West Bund ICEC). Designed by SOM, the West Bund ICEC features a striking diamond-shaped design and will join four other iconic venues – West Bund Dome, West Bund Art Center, GATE M Dream Center, and ORBIT – to showcase a vibrant, innovative, and expansive artistic vision to the public.
Nearly 200 galleries, institutions, and partners from around the world will participate in the 2025 West Bund Art & Design to shape the future of the international art market. The event will showcase over 1,000 artworks from artists from 65 countries and regions.
The "galleries" sector will showcase top names from 22 countries, including Galleria Continua, MASSIMODECARLO, Hauser & Wirth, Karma, neugerriemschneider, Ota Fine Arts, PERROTIN, Thaddaeus Ropac, Esther Schipper, Timothy Taylor, and White Cube.
This edition will also introduce 30 new galleries from Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Notable first-time participants include Beijing Commune (Beijing), Capitain Petzel (Berlin), Castelli Gallery (New York), Paula Cooper Gallery (New York), Meyer Riegger Wolff (Seoul), and NANZUKA (Tokyo).
The "perspective" sector highlights the vast diversity of cross-regional artistic ecosystems while connecting global art institutions.
The Swatch Art Peace Hotel will host the Swatch Art Playground, a residency project. Cervantes and the Instituto de Estudios Baleáricos will present a photography project focused on the culture of the Balearic Islands.
ICICLE will present a curated exhibition of Chinese and French artists to promote Sino-French cultural exchange.
Transcending the standard fair booth, the "xiàn chăng" sector creates a dedicated arena for large-scale artistic creations, installations, and performance art.
Nearly 40 artists and groups will pursue projects that examine the unique power of art to shape spaces and ignite conversation, including Loris Cecchini, Hu Xiangcheng, Qiu Anxiong, QIU JA, Tobias Rehberger, Tang Yiyao, and Zhou Li.
The DREAM moving image area showcases interdisciplinary works that reflect contemporary themes and challenge traditional narratives. More than 20 artists will present over 40 artworks at the GATE M Dream Center– M Factory and the Dock. Several artists will project their works onto large-scale water screens, transforming this former industrial site into a distinctive venue for experimental public art.
In "design /delight," visitors will discover a carefully curated selection of contemporary collectible design and functional art, featuring unique and limited-edition pieces, bespoke collections, and site-specific installations.
Be sure to set aside a full day for this annual event. It is an opportunity to immerse yourself in the experience while enjoying the art on display.
