'Été CELINE' Reworks Shikumen Compound into Stylized Seaside Escape
French luxury house CELINE is bringing a Riviera mood to Shanghai with a summer pop-up, which opened today and will run through May 10.
Titled "Été CELINE," the takeover reworks the historic shikumen (stone-gate) compound at Zhangyuan into a stylized seaside escape.
In the courtyard, sand dunes spill across the space, framed by two wooden pavilions – one serving ice cream, the other nodding to cycling and surf culture. A table tennis corner adds a playful touch, linking a sport that's equally at home in China and France. Bikes, surfboards, and soft-serve are scattered throughout, giving the whole setup an easy, summery feel.
Inside, the space shifts to retail, featuring ready-to-wear, accessories, jewelry and haute parfumerie. A photo booth and private salon are also included.
A standout is the personalization service – launched globally here and exclusive to Zhangyuan – where visitors can customize bags, small leather goods, and denim using motifs ranging from the Chinese zodiac to archival designs and alphabet lettering.
