Localful Choir Is Bringing Summer Vibes to Columbia Circle
Shanghai's popular Localful Choir will premiere at the century-old Navy Club in Columbia Circle with two performances focused around "Summer Mixology," turning the poolside into an immersive vocal celebration.
Founded in 2022, Localful Choir has combined Shanghai-style flair with contemporary vocal performance to celebrate cultural diversity. From pop-up street performances to TV galas, cafés to concert halls, the choir has become known for ingeniously reimagining vintage, jazz, and pop classics. Their style is often described as "romantic, diverse, and unapologetically undefined."
The performance venue adds another layer of charm. The Navy Club, once the Columbia Country Club's pool, is now one of Shanghai's most fashionable cultural venues. Vintage mosaic tiles, arched pathways, and a tree-lined courtyard make the location ideal for this vocal showcase.
The midday and evening concerts will have the same repertoire but different emotions.
The approximately 60-minute concert contains 14 carefully curated summer-themed pieces. The program includes Mandarin pop, jazz, musical theater, ethnic, and a cappella music. Highlights include songs like "Dear You" and "Flowers in Time," crowd-pleasers like "My Future Is Not a Dream," jazz classics like "Come Fly with Me" and "Feeling Good," as well as the Yi ethnic language piece "Ap Jie Lop (Don't Be Afraid)."
The concert will be led by Liu Wei and pianist Qiu Wutong.
