Digital exploration of Chinese women through the ages
"Procession of Elegance," a digital art exhibition of Chinese women, is on display at the Shanghai Film Plaza.
The Zhejiang Provincial Museum's exhibition features research findings from over 40 museums worldwide on the iconography of ancient Chinese women.
The 15-minute art film "Boundless" serves as the exhibition's opening feature, creating a naked-eye 3D visual wonder with 180 million pixels through the use of 40 sets of 4K projectors and 12 screens.
The short film, which focuses on the concept of growth, delves into the underlying meanings behind over 1,000 portrayals of women throughout Chinese history, painting a realistic picture of their existence in the boudoir, courtyard, and wilderness.
The 700-square-meter exhibition room immerses visitors in a mesmerizing universe where ancient women appear to dance gracefully inside jewelry boxes or run across the flowing rivers of time. Meanwhile, magnificent poetry and prose from different eras reverberate around them, reflecting how poets and intellectuals portrayed them.
Digital deconstruction and rearrangement of pieces from classical paintings transform static imagery into immersive and interactive experiences, allowing artifacts to "come alive." Visitors can also scan the wall-mounted QR codes to learn about the historical settings of each image.
The exhibition also features artworks with creative designs and Oriental aesthetics, including excellent lacquerware ornaments and silk scarves. Amusing interactive displays are also set up for guests to confront a reflection of their "past selves" as well as an immersive musical experience using the traditional Chinese instrument guzheng.
A number of activities, such as talk shows and hanfu (traditional Chinese costume) experiences, would be offered in stages to revitalize cultural heritage.
