Shanghai West Bund to Play Host to 'The Palace Through Time'
Steeped in heritage and rich with emotion, the Chinese dance drama "The Palace Through Time" will be staged at the Shanghai West Theater on January 16 and 17.
Choreographed by the China Oriental Performing Arts Group and produced by Shanghai Brilliant Hero Culture under the guidance of the Chinese Academy of Cultural Heritage, this breathtaking production reimagines the legendary 13th-century relocation of the Yongle Palace, transforming cultural memory into motion and architectural heritage into art.
The Palace Through Time made its world premiere on October 3 at the Beijing Poly Theater, where it received glowing reviews and sold out immediately. Tickets for Shanghai audiences will be released at 11:18am on October 28 and will be available through the West Bund Theater and Brilliant Hero Culture WeChat mini programs, as well as on Damai and Maoyan.
Praised as a "living mural" and a "national treasure on stage," the show fuses dance, drama, music, and visual design to resurrect centuries of craftsmanship, from the flying eaves of ancient temples to the luminous blue glaze of lost ceramics.
Each scene intertwines the stories of ancient artisans and modern conservators, creating a dialogue across seven hundred years of history and devotion.
With an all-star cast led by celebrated dancer Zhang Han, The Palace Through Time stands as both a feast for the senses and a tribute to China's enduring creative spirit, a story of resilience, inheritance, and the artistry that transcends generations.
