'Bloom In The Extreme' Brings Award-Winning Acrobatics to Shanghai
At a time when screen effects can easily create flying spectacles, live acrobatics still wins audiences over with its own charm.
On November 7, the Huanggang (Xishui) Acrobatics Troupe from Hubei Province will bring its original contemporary acrobatic show "Bloom In The Extreme" to Shanghai Magnolia Theater.
Xishui acrobatics is a provincial-level intangible cultural heritage in Hubei. It has moved from makeshift rural stages to international competitions and has been performed in Moscow. Its act "Feather Touch" won the Silver Award at the first Nikulin Artists International Circus Festival.
"Bloom In The Extreme" brings together theater, dance, music and multimedia visuals. Through five acts, the show traces a journey from the beginnings of life towards spiritual transcendence.
The performers' precisely controlled leaps reflect countless hours of daily practice and refinement, embodying the perseverance of life.
Beyond technique, acrobatics also involves trust and rapport between partners. On stage, strength is no longer equated with brute force, and gentleness is not equated with fragility. The sense of danger and authenticity of a live performance is also one of the most precious qualities of acrobatic shows.
