DRUMK Brings 'M Realm' to New Bund 31 with T-Stage, and No Seats
The DRUMK dance group's immersive dance show "M Realm" lands at Shanghai's New Bund 31 Performing Arts Center Black Box this weekend. Unlike traditional stage performances, the Livehouse version of "M Realm" aims to break down the "fourth wall," with the audience standing while enjoying the show.
The story follows Mr. M, who gradually loses his passion in a monotonous, repetitive life, until a mysterious street dancer bursts into his world with "DRUMK," a mysterious liquid. The moment he drinks "DRUMK," an adventure beyond reality starts.
"Mr. M is actually an embodiment of every ordinary person," said Xue Wei, the show's creator and lead performer. "He gets tired and lost, and he hides his vulnerability. The story presents a journey from restraint to radiance, from confusion to awakening."
Xue revealed that the stage will be designed as a T-shaped runway to highlight the show's spectacle and bring the performers closer to the audience.
"People will be standing during the performance, creating a very immersive and intimate atmosphere. We've arranged plenty of audience interactions, hoping to help everyone shake off the fatigue of work and life."
The dance group members have studied and drawn from K-pop dance and entertainment culture, including incorporating battle segments into the show.
After the three performances this weekend, the organizers have added two more shows on May 1 and 2, inviting audiences to step into this unique showcase during the Labor Day holiday.
